Israel strike kills Hezbollah commander in Beirut
Israel carried out its first airstrike on Beirut in five months, killing Hezbollah military chief Haytham Ali Tabatabai in a targeted strike on a residential building in the southern suburbs. The attack, which killed at least five people and wounded 28, marks the most significant Israeli operation against Hezbollah leadership since the November 2024 ceasefire. Tabatabai, designated a terrorist by the US with a $5 million bounty, rose to military chief after a 2024 Israeli campaign eliminated many of Hezbollah's other senior commanders.
