Israel reportedly tried to recruit former Iranian president Ahmadinejad
Media reports claim Israel attempted to recruit Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran’s former hardline president, to head a post-Islamic regime in Tehran, even sending its spy chief to meet him. The recruitment effort began in 2022 and continued into 2025, with Israel reportedly paying Ahmadinejad for housing and travel. However, Ahmadinejad is reportedly being held by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, having apparently grown disillusioned with the plan.
