India is considering allowing banks and payment companies to charge businesses a small fee on some UPI transactions, potentially ending a decade of free digital payments. The government has not yet set the rate, but proposals suggest a 0.3-0.5% fee on larger transactions at big businesses. Person-to-person payments will remain free.
