Iceland votes against restarting talks on joining the EU

Icelanders rejected resuming accession talks with the European Union, with 52.8% of voters saying no in Saturday's referendum. The centre-left government of Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir had brought the vote forward due to international tensions. Fishing rights were a key concern for many, fearing loss of control over their valuable fishing grounds under the EU's common policy.
