How The Teen Social Media Curfew Works
The mechanism is default settings, not a hard block. Under government proposals, apps such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube would switch off for 16 and 17-year-olds between midnight and 6am, with autoplay and infinite scroll disabled. Teenagers can opt out in their account settings, which critics call the plan's weakest link. Parliament is expected to see the measures by late 2026.
