How did one bank outage freeze 14,000 charities' pay?

CAF Bank suspended online banking on 24 July after a fraud attempt exposed a third-party software vulnerability. Roughly 14,000 charity customers, including Herefordshire Mind and East Suffolk Trust, still could not process payroll for staff nearly a week after the outage began, with phone queues running over two hours. Chief executive Alison Taylor apologised and gave no date for online services to return.
