How did Apollo win EasyJet's £5.7bn takeover?

Apollo, the US private equity firm, agreed to buy EasyJet for £5.7bn after rival bidder Castlelake withdrew from the takeover race on Thursday. EasyJet's board backed Apollo's £7.15-a-share offer, which now needs shareholder and regulatory approval before the airline goes private. Founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who holds about 15% of shares, plans to roll his stake into the new ownership rather than cash out.
