HMRC warns side hustlers to declare earnings over £1,000 yearly
People making more than £1,000 from side jobs in a tax year must declare it to HMRC, the tax body has warned. The £1,000 tax-free allowance applies to income from various sources like selling items or dog walking. Individuals new to self-assessment must register by 5 October 2026 for the 2025 to 2026 tax year.
