Hissing 4ft Python Found Inside Basildon Water Drain
Andrew Mercer, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Water engineers fixing a leak in Vange, Basildon, heard hissing from a meter chamber on Tuesday and lifted the cover to find a carpet python up to four feet long staring back. The non-venomous snake, native to Australia and New Guinea and probably someone's pet, was cold, dehydrated and injured. South Essex Wildlife Hospital is nursing it and will rehome it if nobody claims it.
