Google fined more than €400m by Irish regulator over its use of location data

Ireland's Data Protection Commission, the EU's lead regulator, imposed the fine after complaints that Google manipulated users into constant tracking. The DPC inquiry found Google lacked a valid legal basis for using location data between May 2018 and February 2020. Google said the case involves "historical policies that have since been updated" and that it has evolved its practices since 2019.
