Germany signs contract for new laser weapon for its navy by 2029

The German Navy will get a new high-energy laser weapon system by 2029 to boost its defence capabilities. The contract, worth a mid three-digit million-euro amount, was signed on 9 July 2026 by the BAAINBw, the German procurement office. Developed by MBDA Deutschland and Rheinmetall, the system has already proven effective against airborne, maritime, and land targets in tests.
