Freemasons sue London police over membership rule.
Freemasons are taking legal action against the Metropolitan Police over new requirements for officers to publicly declare their membership. The United Grand Lodge of England, representing multiple Freemason organizations, has sent a formal letter before claim to initiate judicial review proceedings. They argue the disclosure rule breaches human rights and GDPR regulations while discriminating against members. The policy followed a 2021 report linking Freemason membership to public mistrust.
