Fraud arrest postpones medal ceremonies in Birmingham

West Midlands Police arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of fraud at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, on Saturday night. Six medal ceremonies due between 10pm and 11pm at the European Athletics Championships were cancelled, and transport operations were briefly suspended. Organisers Birmingham 2026 said spectator and athlete safety remained the top priority, and the man stayed in custody for questioning.
