France: 1,000 more deaths during brutal heatwave

Around 1,000 additional deaths have been registered in France since Wednesday, coinciding with a period of intense heat across the nation. Public Health France reported 85% of these excess deaths were people aged 65 or over, particularly in areas under a red heat alert. Wednesday marked the hottest day ever experienced in the country, as the mean 24-hour temperature reached 30°C.
