Four states want a fine almost the size of Meta
The demand nearly equals Meta's entire stock market value, and Meta calls it unprecedented in the history of consumer protection. Meta disclosed in a court filing on Monday that California, Colorado, Kentucky and New Jersey seek $1.4tn in penalties for allegedly designing Facebook and Instagram to hook children. The states' own filings are sealed, no court has endorsed the figure, and trial opens in August.
