FIFA President Infantino scraps plan to sell World Cup stakes after backlash

FIFA has dropped plans to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors following widespread backlash. President Gianni Infantino said the proposal had “created divisions” that were “no longer in the interest” of FIFA’s objectives. “Our purpose has always been – and will always be – to unite and improve,” he said, confirming the plan “will not proceed.”
