Extreme heat is killing camels in Africa as temperatures hit 50C
Extreme heat is affecting even hardy dromedary camels, causing lethargy and reproductive issues for the animals across North Africa and the Horn of Africa. In Somalia, research from June showed that nearly 46% of camel-owning households saw deaths due to drought. In Kenya, veterinarians documented an increase of over 15% in camel fatalities within Marsabit county during the past two years.
