Europe's hottest summer caused 35,000 climate deaths

Europe experienced its hottest summer ever, causing about 35,000 deaths and an estimated €180bn in damage. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described it as the "summer of truth," cautioning that the continent's temperature is rising twice as fast as the worldwide average. Campaigners say the political response from centrist and left-wing politicians has been tepid.
