Europe airline pollution rises above pre-Covid levels
People flying across Europe are linked to higher carbon emissions as airlines continue expanding despite promises to cut pollution. Research by Transport & Environment found European aviation produced 195 megatonnes of CO₂ from departing flights in 2025, exceeding levels recorded before the pandemic. Ryanair alone produced 16.6 megatonnes of CO₂ last year, around 50% higher than its emissions in 2019.
