EU unlikely to be ready to defend against an invasion by 2030
The European Court of Auditors, the EU's financial watchdog, says disjointed national industries and a heavy reliance on American hardware are hindering military preparations. While member states grew their defence budgets by 79% from 2020 to 2025, they were eight months late supplying a promised million ammo rounds to Ukraine. The US accounted for 63% of the continent's military purchases between early 2022 and mid-2023.
