EU, India agree trade deal comprising 25% of Global GDP
EU and India have finalised a significant free trade agreement intended to double European exports to India by 2032. The pact, described by Ursula von der Leyen as historic, slashes tariffs on European cars and wine while granting Indian textiles and pharmaceuticals easier access to the single market. Negotiators accelerated talks to counter economic pressure from the US and China, with the deal set to save European firms approximately £3.5bn in duties annually once implemented next year.
