Essex Police stops face scanning after bias study

Fairness questions have been raised, prompting a local police force to suspend its use of advanced surveillance tools. Essex officers recently halted face-scanning technology deployments after a University of Cambridge study identified accuracy and bias risks. The study, using 188 actors, revealed a statistically significant difference: black people identified more.
