English and Welsh parents could face jail for children's most extreme crimes
Parents of young offenders in England and Wales could lose benefits, face fines, or even be jailed for their children's crimes. Youth justice minister Jake Richards said judges will have discretion for jail sentences, which will only happen in "most extreme cases". However, experts at Durham University say parenting orders are not effective and often penalise poorer families.
