Edinburgh festival blends literature with music for new audiences.
The Edinburgh book festival is expanding its musical events to attract new audiences, blending literature with other art forms. A Dutch group will play music for Ali Smith's readings, and Kathleen Jamie’s essay will be performed with Scottish musicians at Greyfriars Kirk. Director Jenny Niven says this move aims to combat declining literacy and competition from social media.
