Drivers face £100 fine for misusing parent and child parking bays
Motorists who park in parent and child bays at supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda without a child in the car face Parking Charge Notices of up to £100, enforced by private parking companies. The bays are reserved for parents or guardians accompanied by a child under 12 and are typically wider and positioned closer to store entrances. Many supermarket car parks are now monitored by automatic number plate recognition cameras, and ignoring a penalty notice can lead to court action.
