Discounts mask looming food price increases

Shoppers could face higher bills in coming months as retailers warn rising energy and supply chain costs may eventually lift prices. British Retail Consortium and NIQ data showed food inflation eased from 3.1 per cent in April to 2.7 per cent in May after heavy supermarket promotions. Helen Dickinson said firms still face pressure from higher energy bills and disruption linked to the Iran conflict.
