DeepMind UK staff unionize, raising AI defence concerns

Staff concern over how artificial intelligence is used could affect work on defence projects and internal policies. In April 2026, employees at Google DeepMind in the UK voted to join a union and asked the company to recognise it as a bargaining body. About 1,000 people could be represented, and groups include trade unions the Communication Workers Union and Unite.
