Deadly 7.8 quake hits Philippines, tsunami alert

A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines early Monday, sparking tsunami warnings and causing damage to buildings. The quake's epicentre was near General Santos City on Mindanao island, leading to at least one death and four injuries. Authorities urged people to move to higher ground, with waves up to three metres possible in some areas.
