Darren Jones urged to skip Labour leadership race

Party unity could come sooner if no rival enters the contest. Cabinet ministers backing Keir Starmer are encouraging Darren Jones not to stand against Andy Burnham in the Labour leadership race, while some MPs want a contest to test economic plans. Jones is seen as unlikely to reach the 81 MP nominations needed, and Burnham has support from as many as 300 MPs.
