Lady Justice Cockerill ruled most engine software examined did not count as banned emissions cheating devices, although some Mercedes and Peugeot-Citroën systems could. The 15-week High Court case covered 20 vehicles from five manufacturers sold from 2009, and lawyers for the claimants are considering an appeal. Carmakers welcomed the ruling, while campaign group Mums for Lungs called it a setback.
