Cornwall, Leicestershire and West Midlands record wettest winter ever
The Met Office confirmed on 2 March 2026 that Cornwall, Leicestershire and the West Midlands each experienced their wettest winter since comparable records began in 1836. The UK as a whole recorded 390.1mm of rain over winter 2025/26, 13% above the long-term average. Three named storms — Goretti, Ingrid and Chandra — struck in January alone, causing widespread flooding and travel disruption. Southern England was 58% above its average rainfall for the season, while Scotland finished 14% below its seasonal norm.
