Common stomach bug linked to 22% of bowel cancer cases

A new international study found that exposure to Helicobacter pylori, a widespread stomach bacterium, is potentially related to about 22% of bowel cancer cases globally. An examination of 43 studies, which included more than 48 million individuals, indicated that exposure was associated with a 1.59 times greater likelihood of developing bowel cancer.
