Clacton by-election officially called after Farage resigns

The by-election in Clacton was officially initiated following the resignation of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage from his parliamentary seat. On Thursday morning, Reform MP Lee Anderson submitted the writ in the Commons, setting the probable by-election date for Thursday, 13 August. Farage will re-fight the Essex seat, which he won in the 2024 general election with a majority of more than 8,000.
