China begins 12-hour daily military drills near Taiwan.
The operations kick off just one day after high-level meetings between American and Chinese officials over the island. Maritime authorities confirmed the 12-hour daily exercises will take place around Dongshan Island, near China's southeastern coast. Beijing previously launched rockets near the territory during major war games last December, responding to a record $11.1 billion American weapons deal.
