China bans hidden EV door handles effective January 1 2027
China becomes the first nation to ban hidden door handles on electric vehicles following fatal crashes involving Xiaomi models. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology mandates that by January 1, 2027, all cars must feature mechanical releases. New regulations require exterior handles to have a recessed space measuring at least 6cm by 2cm. This move impacts approximately 60 percent of the top 100 best-selling new energy vehicles, forcing manufacturers like Tesla to redesign flush latches.
