Burnham's high street tax plan could cost about £880 million yearly

Andy Burnham's proposal to change business rates to help small high street businesses might cost around £880 million each year, according to a new analysis. The plan would increase the threshold for 100% small business rates relief from £12,000 to £18,000, exempting over 140,000 additional small firms. Burnham intends to fund this by raising property taxes on large warehouses used by online retailers like Amazon.
