Burnham becomes PM with UK economy in third-best state in 50 years

Andy Burnham takes office as Prime Minister today with the UK economy in a stronger position than most of his predecessors in the last five decades. Inflation is expected to fall to the Bank of England's 2% target in his first year. Public sector borrowing is also forecast to shrink, giving his government more financial flexibility.
