Budget to Scrap Carer's Allowance 'Cliff-Edge' Rule

Budget to Scrap Carer's Allowance 'Cliff-Edge' Rule

The government says Wednesday's Budget will abolish the Carer's Allowance cliff-edge, which strips unpaid carers of their entire weekly payment if they earn even a penny over the £204 limit. Instead, a digital taper will reduce the benefit gradually, by £1 for each extra £1 earned. The change follows a Guardian investigation into huge financial penalties, but is not expected to take effect until 2030/31.
