British Olympic Champion Mary Rand Dies at 86
Tributes are being paid across the UK to a trailblazing British Olympic athlete. Mary Rand, a British athlete who died at 86, made history in 1964 by becoming the first woman from her nation to claim three Olympic medals at a single Games; she was also a recipient of the Sports Personality of the Year award. At the Tokyo Olympics, she captured the long jump gold medal with a record-breaking 6.76-metre jump, alongside earning silver and bronze.
