British Airways chief says fares may rise

Travellers could face higher ticket costs if fuel stays expensive. Speaking at the International Air Transport Association meeting in Rio de Janeiro, British Airways chief executive Sean Doyle said prices would need to increase again if jet fuel costs remain at current levels, with larger rises expected on longer routes. Fuel prices have doubled since February, while about 40 per cent of Europe’s jet fuel usually passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
