Bolivia declares emergency to remove road blockades

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz has declared a state of emergency, allowing the military to clear road blockades that have cut off food and fuel supplies. Protests against austerity measures, including cancelled fuel subsidies, have lasted 50 days, leading to 17 deaths, mostly from a lack of medical care. The decree will last 90 days, but could end sooner if the violence stops.
