Asda hands over 3,500 store cleaning jobs to outside firms to cut costs
The supermarket claims the switch will bring better tech like robotics to its aisles, but the GMB workers' union called the decision "detestable". Cleaners will soon work for two private contractors instead, bringing the retailer in line with rival shops. It follows massive financial struggles for the chain, which lost nearly £1bn last year and has already outsourced security staff.
