Anthropic, the Google-backed AI company behind Claude, has published research revealing a stark gap between AI’s theoretical job capabilities and its real-world impact. While AI could theoretically handle tasks across most sectors, actual usage remains concentrated in white-collar roles. Physical and hands-on jobs -mechanics, cooks, tradespeople - remain largely untouched. Most at risk: programmers, analysts, and data entry workers. Hiring of young workers in exposed fields has already dropped 16%, signalling quiet disruption before mass displacement arrives.
