Anthropic accuses Alibaba of stealing AI tech
Anthropic, a U.S.-based artificial intelligence company, alleges that the Chinese firm Alibaba "brazenly" appropriated the capabilities of its Claude AI model, referring to this as the most extensive extraction operation of its kind. Anthropic says Alibaba-linked operators used thousands of fraudulent accounts for nearly 29 million exchanges, in a process known as distillation attacks, to train weaker AI models. The company urged US Congress to penalise such attacks. Anthropic also stated that these attacks turn American investment into a subsidy for competitors.
