Aldi takes on more debt as profit slips by 16m

The German discount supermarket chain grew its net debt to 862m pounds in 2025 despite planning a major expansion. Pre-tax profit fell from 416m pounds to 400m pounds while its workforce dropped by about 1,000 staff members. Chief executive Giles Hurley recently announced 900m pounds of funding to open 40 new stores next year.
