AI models often fail to decipher animal communication because they focus on sound properties, not the meaning animals attribute to them. Researchers from Tel Aviv University found that acoustically similar sounds don't always carry similar meanings. Testing with toddlers' vocalizations showed AI could not classify sounds by meaning alone, missing urgency.
