About 650 more offenders leave jail early on Tuesday

The early release of offenders is the second stage of the government's plan to reduce the prison population in England and Wales. Offenders whose sentences extended to two and a half years are being released having completed a third of their term. The probation service union, Napo, is meeting to discuss a potential strike over pay and workload.
