£1 in £11 public money goes to private equity

Public money for key services is increasingly reaching investment-owned companies, according to new analysis. A Guardian investigation found about £24.4bn of government contract spending in the year to April 2025 went to businesses controlled by private equity firms, covering areas including healthcare, transport, education and local council services.
