Why is the Arctic important?

The Arctic, or 'High North', is increasingly vital for global security and trade. As ice melts, new shipping routes become viable, and access to natural resources increases. This makes the region strategically important, as Defence Secretary Wes Streeting noted, for countries like the UK and NATO to protect their interests and maintain stability.
