Why are owls important?

Owls are vital predators in many ecosystems, helping to control populations of rodents and other small animals. Their presence, as seen in the Skipton project bringing back all five British species, indicates a healthy and balanced environment. They sit at the top of their food chain, so their return suggests a thriving natural habitat below them.
